OTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING
- Michele earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University and a bachelor’s degree in English literature, a paralegal certificate, and a designation in journalism with a specialization in print journalism from UCLA.
- After graduating from UCLA, Michele attended graduate school in secondary education at California State University at Northridge (CSUN). At UCLA and at CSUN, she learned the principles of curriculum design, educational psychology and measuring behavioral objectives.
- In 1995, Michele completed Jack Canfield’s Facilitating Skills Seminar, a 62-hour intensive professional training seminar focusing on the development of facilitation skills for enhancing self-esteem and facilitating individual and group transformation.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
- For more than 25 years, Michele worked in corporate, clinical, and social service settings. She served as director of development and communications for several nonprofit organizations that serve people with cancer, HIV/AIDS and mental illness.
- Early in her career, Michele worked as a legal analyst for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and as a senior paralegal for National Medical Enterprises.
- As a human resources representative / senior benefits and policies advisor for ARCO, Michele administered human resource functions for 330 exempt, non-exempt and union-represented employees. She was responsible for recruitment, promotion, job transfers, performance reviews, compensation and benefits administration. She coordinated a pre-retirement planning workshop for employees who were facing a reduction in force (layoff).
- Michele was awarded the Human Resources Recognition Award for her success in persuading the corporate benefits department that an existing policy was extremely restrictive and unfair to current employees.
As a trainee at The Wellness Community, Michele led relaxation and visualization sessions and co-facilitated support groups for people with cancer and their caregivers. She designed and delivered a workshop for children and grandchildren of people with cancer. Michele won the Joyce Eisenberg-Keefer National Essay Contest for her winning entry describing The Wellness Community’s program.
